MATSUURA Yukiko

First time meeting with other university students in unfamiliar Malaysian land. At first, I was nervous because I could not open my heart, but I was able to get along very well while going to school every day. Even for those who are not good at making presentations in public, classes at university often require independence and aggressiveness, so everyone can get used to each day. In the university classes, I had many opportunities to talk with local people through interviews and activities, and I was able to deepen my understanding of the cultural and religious work environment in Malaysia. I was able to work with peace of mind because I repeated discussions so that I could go to the internship where I wanted, and I chose the assignment.

I worked at the hotel front office. At first, I was confused that there were some differences from the work I had imagined, but I was able to actively talk to people around me every day and teach me various jobs. Many guests come from all over the world so it was often difficult to hear various types of English. However, even if I failed or did not know what to do, the people around me helped me immediately; so many challenges made me strong. Through the internship at this hotel, I was very interested in the good relationship between boss and employees. It was nice that my boss tried to create a comfortable working environment for employees and actively listened to their opinions.

Depending on your tension, you can create many opportunities to speak English. Through my internship, I realized that it was important to try without fear of failure. I think that you can have a valuable experience of working abroad and spend a very fulfilling 5 weeks!
