3New Liaison Offices Opened in Southern Thailand, Great Developments in the Cooperation with BIOTEC

On November 5, 2018, Kanazawa University entered into a triparty MOA with Prince of Songkla University (PSU) and the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology(BIOTEC)in order to promote further research and student exchanges by utilizing the Shrimp Farm, a joint facility of PSU and BIOTEC.

Moreover, KU opened 3 new liaison offices in Hat Yai, Surat Thani and Phuket Campus of PSU to establish the hub base for research activity in the southern Thailand.  In addition, PSU Kanazawa Office also opened in a laboratory of PSU Faculty of Geosciences and Civil Engineering, 6F Natural Science and Technology Hall 2.  The Joint Opening Ceremony for the abovementioned offices was held at Surat Thani Campus on November 5.

At the Ceremony, President Koetsu Yamazaki, Vice President for International Affairs Yoshio OTANI, Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of PSU, Asst. Prof. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charoen Nakason, Vice President for Surat Thani Campus, and Dr. Somvong Tragoonrung, Executive Director of BIOTEC confirmed the new cooperation with a firm handshake.

On November 7, the Opening Ceremony exclusively for KU Phuket Office followed.
The First Step Program, a study-abroad program for the beginner level student, will take place at PSU in next March as well as further joint research especially in the areas of Environmental Studies and Biological Science and Technology in the near future.  There is much anticipation for further exchanges between the universities using the rich environment and resources in the southern Thailand.
