Education

On December 9, 22 students (7 Japanese and 15 international) took part in the Kanazawa Studies in Ishikawa Autumn Course 2017 hosted by the International Student Center held at the Fourth High School Memorial Museum of Cultural Exchange and Tea Room Shoutouan at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.

In the first half of the class, the participants listened to the lectures by Mr. Jyoyo NISHIGIWA and Ms. Hakko SHIGETOMO about the history of Kōdō, the traditional Japanese Art of appreciating the scents of aromatic woods, including the story of the Maeda Family, who ruled the Kaga Clan (the present Ishikawa area). In the last half, the participants learned the manner of Kōdō and appreciated several types of the scents of aroma woods in the tea room.

The participants had a valuable experience that they cannot be enjoyed elsewhere and gained a better understanding of the history of Kanazawa and Japanese traditional culture.
